Reclaimed Wood
At Niccum Designs, we like working old wood into new projects to showcase the character time has endowed upon it. Some woods like old-growth redwood are just not around any more which makes them all the more special. We once reclaimed 3,000 bf. of wine vat wood slats from a Napa California winery to dress up an entire Sugar Bowl Resort house located in Truckee, Ca. Distressing new wood is one alternative to using reclaimed wood, but there’s really no substitute for age and wear. Timbers, sometime twisted and gnarly, can make stunning additions to many projects and even transform them into veritable works of art using live edges, knots, and even the battle scars to show the life of the tree and its natural beauty.
